Dean National Institute of Strategic Communication (NISC), Beijing, Dr Manli Cheng said here on Monday that China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CEPC) project is aimed at improving socio-economic conditions of people of both the friendly countries. He was speaking on the topic of 'One-Belt One-Road' at a business breakfast meeting held at a local hotel under the auspices of Passion for Pakistan (Pathfinder Group and Nutshell Forum) and Karachi Council on Foreign Relations (KCFR).

Elaborating, Cheng said that the strategic CPEC project which was first proposed by the Chinese government in 2013 would be connected to other countries of the region with a vision to ensure economic development. Pathfinder Group's chairman Ikram Sehgal said that CPEC would be a game-changer for Pakistan. He deplored that although more investors from both China and Pakistan are ready to invest, some people are politicizing the multibillion projects for their personal interests. "It is high time for us to get united and extend our support to this mega project for the greater interest of the country," he added.

Terming CPEC as the most important project of the region, KCFR chairman Shahid Amin said: "We are well aware of the importance of CPEC as it would be a game changer. Energy projects, road linkages, and pipelines, etc are the major components of CPEC and its benefits would also be reaped by Central Asian Counties," he added. Referring to investors' concerns over security aspects of the project, he said that the government's anti-insurgency strategies and the armed force's swift operations against terrorists have resulted in significant drop in the incidents of terrorism in the country during last couple of years. He hoped that the CPEC project on its completion would not only further strengthen friendly relations between the two countries, but would also promote peace and tranquility in the region.
